Dr. Brenda Thiam, PHD

Dr. Brenda J. Thiam is a passionate special educator of nearly 25 years. Her fondest memories are of teaching students who have autism. She is originally from North Carolina but chose to move to Hagerstown, by way of other cities. Her family found a better quality of life in Hagerstown. Delegate Thiam comes from humble beginnings. She was raised by a single mother of five children, no heat in her childhood home, and living in the projects during her high school years. She set high but attainable goals for herself because her mother required it. As a Delegate, Dr. Thiam continues to work with the Hagerstown Mayor and the City Council.

 As a District, our community stands ready to embark upon a prosperous, safe, and healthy future for Hagerstown. Delegate Thiam always puts the people of Hagerstown first. Great leadership is not afraid to challenge the existing status quo. Delegate Thiam understands that there is value in thinking outside of the box. As a Delegate in Annapolis, her reputation is one of being a dedicated and focused problem solver. Brenda believes that the hyper partisan political games in session only serve as a distraction from the people's work.  She is committed to serving the office at the privilege of the voters of Hagerstown. Delegate Thiam understands that her purpose is to build coalitions from across the State of Maryland to better serve the citizens of Hagerstown at the state level.

Brenda is a dedicated and passionate resident of Hagerstown. As Delegate she continued to reach out to folks by door knocking, letters, or simply striking up a conversation at Church or the Grocery Store. Brenda knows the value of the constituent's time. Brenda knows that every person in Hagerstown brings something to the table. Brenda is a Delegate who is willing to engage with the residents of her district. She knows that wiser spending, results driven bipartisan cooperation, and professional problem-solving result in an economic, effective, and efficient Maryland government. All the while creating a prosperous business climate and a brighter future for both Hagerstown and the State of Maryland.
